Luckily, you’re probably only a few A’s away from a better GPA. If you need a boost to your grade point average, we recommend taking an easy class that you think you can get a good grade in.

If you’re a student at James Madison University, here are the easiest classes you can take to boost your GPA.

Easy Classes At JMU

1.  ART 200 – Art in General Culture

The first course on our list is an online class that is described by JMU students to be an easy A. If you have any interest in art, or just want an easy online class, we suggest giving this one a shot.

This course focuses on the “space” arts, which are architecture, interior design, sculpting, and painting. You will emphasize contemporary art in your learning.

2.  MUS 200 – Music and Culture

For all of you music lovers out there, this easy A course is for you. You will learn about the historical context of music in both present and past cultures.

According to this syllabus from 2020, your grade in this course will be determined from 7 quizzes, 2 responses, a listening exam, and a final exam.

Definitely look at adding this class to your schedule this semester.

3.  ITAL 101 – Elementary Italian

If you have any interest in learning Italian, or just want an easy A with applicable and interesting course content, we suggest Elementary Italian with Giuseppe Sanfilippo. 

According to JMU students, you do need to participate in class, but the course is super easy and fun.

For an easy A course with the ability to gain knowledge of a foreign language, this course is the perfect fit.

4.  REL 101 – Religions of the World

The next easy A class on our list will outline the religions of the world, focusing on their history, mythology, and origins.

JMU students describe this as one of the easier classes at JMU, so we recommend taking this class as a GPA booster.

All lectures are posted online, so content is easily reviewable. As long as you show some kind of effort you will have a good chance of receiving an A.

5.  ISCI 101 – Physics, Chemistry & the Human Experience

One of the easiest classes at JMU is ICSI 101 – a course that will give you an introduction to the general principles of physics and chemistry.

According to the JMU student linked above, this course is incredibly easy. The quizzes were crossword puzzles with a word bank. 

If you have any interest in science, or just need an easy A, we definitely recommend putting this course on your schedule this semester.

6.  PHIL 101 – Introduction to Philosophy

PHIL 101 is another easy A course that will give you an introduction to the basics of philosophy, focusing on ethics, theories, the nature of oneself and religion. 

JMU students say that taking this class with Dr. Trocchia is the best option, as he is passionate and engaging.

This 3 credit course can be used for Gen Ed credit, so we recommend putting this course on your schedule to round out your semester.

7. ENG 260 – Survey of African-American Literature

The next easy A course on our list is recommended by JMU students to be taken with Dr. Godfrey. If taken with him, you can expect great teaching and a super easy class.

ENG 260 will outline the literature of African American authors between the 18th century and the present.

For those of you that need literature credit, this course will be especially useful for you this semester. 

8. MUS 204 – History of Rock

What’s not to love about an easy course about Rock and Roll? All of you music lovers out there, this one’s for you.

This course is recommended to be taken as an easy A course because it is both interesting and easy, and it will expose you to tons of new music!

9. HIST 225 – United States History

Especially if taken with Dr. Hardwick, HIST 225 is described as an engaging, yet low-workload course. 

In this course you will survey the history of the United States from the Colonial period to the present day. 

This course applies to Cluster 4 requirements, so definitely try this one out if you need a course in that category. 

10. PSYC 101 – General Psychology

Especially if you are interested in the Psychology field, we highly recommend this course for an easy A. 

If taken with Professor David Daniels, you can expect super easy tests. JMU students have great things to say about this professor.

You will learn about the general principles of Psychology, including the nervous system, motivation, personality, and perception.

11. GEOL 102 – Environment: Earth

If you are in need of Cluster 3 credit, GEOL 102 is the perfect easy A course to add to your schedule this semester.

According to JMU students this course is a cakewalk if taken with Sarah Shomo.

GEOL 102 will outline the relationship between Earth and those who inhabit it, and how global change is affecting humans.

12. SOC 110 – Social Issues in a Global Context

Last but certainly not least on our list is SOC 110, a class that surveys the world’s societies and how different forces shape them. This course may be used for Gen Ed credit.

JMU students say that the workload for this course is low, and lecture Powerpoints are uploaded online. 

Especially if you need Gen Ed credit, why not give this one a shot this semester?
